How are language and math skills related? The goal of the Language Learning and Math Achievement (LLAMA) Project is to better understand this question.

The LLAMA Project started in 2018. Researchers in Canada and Northern Ireland have explored LLAMA questions with several different groups of students:

  • Students learning mathematics in an Immersion milieu and their peers learning in English
    • French Immersion in Manitoba, Canada
    • Irish Immersion in Northern Ireland
  • Students learning mathematics in a second language and their peers learning in their first language
    • English in Ontario, Canada
    • French in Quebec, Canada

Students participated in 2018 and 2019. Further longitudinal data was unavailable due to COVID-19. However, we have found many interesting results and are still busy analzying the data and planning a new phase.
