Parliamentary Work Opportunities

House of Commons Page Program

Do you have an interest in Canadian politics and speak both official languages? Are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident graduating from a high school or CEGEP, and have an overall average of at least 80 per cent?

House of Commons Pages work part-time on Parliament Hill while attending first-year university courses. Their duties are varied and include collecting and distributing official documents, serving House officials, acting as messengers for the Speaker and for Members of Parliament, and speaking to high school groups about their experiences. The House of Commons Page Program is a unique opportunity to see the House of Commons in action, meet other youth from across the country, and earn more than $18,000 for the yearlong contract. Application deadline: November 8, 2023.

Senate Page Program

The Senate of Canada invites you to join its Senate Page team! The Senate Page Program offers university students a unique opportunity to work alongside senators within the walls of our Parliament. Senate Pages are responsible for a wide variety of activities associated with the good functioning of the legislative process. Senate Pages work a minimum of 12 hours per week, Monday to Thursday. Pages earn approximately $16,000 on a one year contract, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Students are able to apply during their last year of high school or during their first three years of undergraduate study. Applicants to the Senate Page Program are eligible to enrol in any of Carleton’s 20 undergraduate degree programs. Application deadline: TBD.

Parliamentary Guide Program

The Parliamentary Guide Program offers university students a unique opportunity to showcase Canada’s Parliamentary system and Parliament Buildings. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over Canada and around world are guided through the historic corridors of the Parliament Buildings.
