CODESRIA – Strengthening PhD Programmes in African Universities Call For Applications for 2015

The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) is pleased to announce the call for applications from research laboratories and doctoral schools in African universities for the first phase of its initiative to support research in the social sciences and humanities.
The objective of this initiative is to restore and/or enhance seminar culture as well as to encourage the use of multi and interdisciplinary approaches to research.
After a rigorous selection process, selected laboratories and doctoral schools will receive a grant of 10,000 dollars from CODESRIA for books and journals, workshops and seminars.

CODESRIA est heureux d’annoncer l’appel à candidatures de laboratoires de recherche et des écoles doctorales dans les universités africaines pour une intiative pour soutenir la recherche dans les sciences sociales. Les recipiendaires recevrait $10,000 pour la recherche.

CODESRIA – Applications for Participating in the Economic Justice Institute’s “Economic Justice in Africa: Globalization, the State and Civil Society” Open

In partnership with the OSISA Economic Justice Programme CODESRIA is pleased to announce the organization of an Economic Justice Institute in Durban, South Africa from September 7-18, 2015.  The theme of the Institute is ‘Economic justice in Africa: globalization, the state and civil society,’ and it will be held on the margins of the World Social Science Forum in Durban co-hosted by HSRC and CODESRIA and whose theme is “Transforming global relations for a just world”. CODESRIA invites applications for participation in the institute from scholars, researchers, practitioners and civil society activists from the SADC region working in the areas of social and economic justice, resource governance, property rights, commodification and extension of markets, climate justice, agriculture and other issues in the broad area of sustainable development.
Applications for resource persons and laureates are available now.

Application Procedures

Applications for the position of resource person should include:

  1. An application letter;
  2. A curriculum vitae;
  3. Two (2) published papers;
  4. A proposal of not more than five (5) pages in length, outlining the issues to be covered in the proposed lectures.

Applications for laureates should include:

  1. A letter indicating institutional or organizational affiliation;
  2. A curriculum vitae;
  3. A two or three pages application letter including an analysis of the relationship between the candidate working area and the problematic and concerns raised by the theme of the Economic Justice Summer School;
  4. Two (2) reference letters from scholars, researchers or activists  known for their competence and expertise in the candidate’s working area, including their names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses.
  5. A copy of the passport.

 

Application Deadline

The deadline for the submission of applications is 1rst of august 2015. Selected applicants will be notified in the first fortnight of August 2015.

CODESRIA – Appel à candidatures – Développement du curriculum et de l’enseignement innovant de sciences sociales et humaines au Sénégal

Le Conseil pour le développement de la recherche en sciences sociales en Afrique (CODESRIA) lance un appel à candidature pour la première retraite de formation qu’il organise à Dakar du 24 au 30 Aout 2015 dans  le cadre d’un nouveau programmesur « Le développement du curriculum et de l’enseignement innovant de sciences sociales et humaines au Sénégal ». Il s’agit là d’une nouvelle initiative du CODESRIA qui s’inscrit dans le cadre des programmes collaboratifs. Cette initiative qui bénéficie du soutien du programme d’appui à l’enseignement supérieur mis en place par Open society Fondation (OSF), vise à mettre en évidence les diverses manières dont l’enseignement supérieur contribue à la construction desystèmes de gouvernance démocratiques en Afrique, à travers des programmes et méthodes d’enseignement novateurs. Aussi, cette initiative encourage les programmes innovants et les efforts qui visent la révision des curricula dans les universités sénégalaises. Il essaye d’évaluer comment certaines préoccupations des sociétés démocratiques et ouvertes sont prises en compte dans l’enseignement et la recherche. Il s’agit, entre autres, d’explorer des pistes permettant de soutenir les innovations dans l’enseignement supérieur sénégalais.
L’objectif de cette première retraite dédiée essentiellement aux jeunes enseignants chercheurs ou en milieu de carrière dans les universités sénégalaises, est de renforcer leurs capacités, à innover en termes de contenu et d’approches pédagogiques. La finalité de cette activité est de permettre aux enseignants chercheurs des universités publiques sénégalaises, dans un esprit d’innovation pédagogique, de produire des articles ou des manuels de cours sur les thématiques retenues pour la retraite. Une subvention sera accordée aux candidats sélectionnés pour faciliter les travaux de terrain. Cette activité vise également la création d’un nouveauréseau de chercheurs enseignants sur ces questions en facilitant les liens avec les chercheurs en provenance d’autres pays d’Afrique.

 

Trois thématiques ont été choisies pour ce premier atelier de formation :

Ø  Epistémologie des sciences sociales

Ø  SHS et STEM

 

  1. Droits, Démocratie et Dynamiques des sociétés :

Ø  Droits des personnes vulnérables

Ø  Droits de la famille

Ø  Démocratie et libertés publiques en Afrique

Ø  Pouvoir et Démocratie au niveau local

Ø  Inégalités sociales, économiques et culturelles au Sénégal

Ø  Intégration régionale et continentale

 

  1. Modernités africaines

Ø  Religions, religiosités et radicalisme religieux au Sénégal

Ø  Identité, altérité, mémoires

Ø  Cultures urbaines

Ø  L’art contemporain

Ø  Sexualités au Sénégal et en Afrique

 

Les enseignants chercheurs qui souhaiteraient participer à cette retraite de formation sont invités à soumettre leur candidature au CODESRIA. Le dossier de candidature comprendra: – Une demande de candidature ; – Une lettre attestant de l’affiliation universitaire ; -Un curriculum vitae ; – la fiche d’identification ci jointe dûment remplie ; – Un résumé de proposition de recherche de 3 à 5 pages maximum, présentant la motivation, la problématique et la contribution scientifique par rapport au thème choisi.

Invitation to Apply: 2nd West Africa Executive Course on Human Rights and Drug Policy

The University of Ghana School of Law, in collaboration with the Open Society Global Drug Policy Program and Open Society Initiative for West Africa, is inviting applications for its intensive 6 day 2nd West Africa Executive Course on Human Rights and Drug Policy to be held at the University of Ghana, Legon, between July 27 and August 1, 2015.
The course aims at developing the competencies of the participants to support their home governments in adopting drug policies which are underpinned by public health and citizen security, anchored in evidence-based harm reduction approaches and back by laws or practices that are human rights-compliant.

Farms to Markets in South Sudan – with aims to improve food security for rural populations in the region by boosting food production and by supporting the market participation of smallholders to protect livelihoods.
