Carleton is moving the existing Exchange Email for Faculty and Staff service, onto Microsoft’s Office 365 Cloud.

Benefits
This upgrade will result in essentially unlimited message storage (50GB), better protection from SPAM and malware, and support for the latest mobile devices.

When
The upgrade is occurring over the summer, faculty by faculty and department by department. You will be informed prior to your upgrade.

Impact
Only those faculty and staff using the existing Exchange Email service are affected, and for majority of these, the impact is minimal: Carry on sending and receiving email. When your mailbox is upgraded, you will see a pop-up in your PC Outlook requesting you restart Outlook. Your upgrade is complete.

For those faculty and staff members who also access their email from a smartphone or a Mac, updated settings are required. These new devices settings are documented here carleton.ca/its/exchange, the new web interface, available upon upgrade, is here exchange.carleton.ca. The Service Desk will be ready to assist you on the day of your upgrade.

Privacy
As part of the planning process, Carleton conducted an impact assessment in order to identify and understand the privacy issues. This email service is compliant with Canadian federal and provincial privacy legislation. Microsoft has also announced they will be opening data centres in Toronto and Quebec city in 2016 to host their Canadian customers’ email: reimagine.microsoft.ca

If you wish to remain on the legacy Exchange email system, please indicate by emailing: legacy-exchange@carleton.ca.
