How will I be evaluated?
Your grade for FOOD 4907 or FOOD 4908 will be assigned by your supervisor and two other faculty members. The work that you have performed over the eight month period, a poster presentation or defense, and your written thesis will be evaluated as described below. A full grading rubric will be available on cuLearn once the course starts.
Work performed (15%):
This component is assessed by your supervisor. Work performed refers to the quantity and quality of the work you have completed. It includes the following factors: dedicating 8 hours per week to the project, organizational skills, quality of interactions with your supervisor, autonomy in driving the work, and technical skills in performing the work.
Faculty of Science Research Day Poster Presentation or Thesis Defense (summer only) (25%):
This component will be assessed by two evaluators other than your supervisor. A co-supervisor removed from the laboratory setting can act as an evaluator. The following factors will be considered: content of poster, content of oral presentation, delivery of oral presentation, ability to anticipate and answer questions. If you choose to register for FOOD 4907 or FOOD 4908 during the summer term, the poster presentation at the Faculty of Science Research Day will be replaced by a thesis defense.
Written thesis (60%):
This component will be assessed by your supervisor and another evaluator. A co-supervisor removed from the laboratory setting can act as the other evaluator. The content (literature review, materials and methods, results and data analysis, critical discussion of results, conclusions, references) and form (syntax, style, formatting, grammar) will be assessed.
