The need for evaluators who are able to work in domestic governments, international development agencies, consulting firms, business and non-profits is growing as pressure to demonstrate policy and program performance and impact is increasing. Carleton’s accredited Public Policy and Program Evaluation diploma prepares students for roles as evaluators and as managers of evaluation. The program prepares students to understand the various approaches and traditions of evaluation, methodologies and techniques within each of these, and to think critically about evaluation use and design. You will better understand where evaluation fits in the broader contexts of public policy, strategic management and accountability and appreciate how to make more effective use of evaluation. Students may apply the six diploma courses toward application to the Master of Public Policy and Administration, thereby reducing its length from 14 courses to 8.
Students begin the DPPE in the Fall term. The diploma consists of six online single-semester courses which are offered across four consecutive terms of study. The study terms include Summer pace that enables students to complete the program in 16 months while remaining employed. The deadline for applications is June 15.
Carleton’s DPE will also connect you to the Canadian Evaluation Society and the annual CES Case Competition. Carleton’s diploma program in evaluation is a recognized credential toward the CES CE designation, and is one of only a few programs dedicated to understanding evaluation from a public policy and public administration perspective.
