Samantha Faddoul

If your best friend had to describe you in 10 words or less, what would she say?
Passionate about helping others and has a thirst for knowledge

Share one fun fact about yourself.
I can juggle.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 10 years?
Design and be a part of the construction of my own future house.

Who is the most inspiring engineer you know or have heard of?
Professor Vandenberg because his course first ignited my passion for civil engineering. He is an amazing teacher and a great role model.

Why did you choose your program of study?
I signed up for engineering because I love math, and stayed in engineering because of how passionate I became towards designing and solving engineering-related problems.

What has been your favourite course?
Wood Engineering. When I was young, my dad would build many stuff from wood (a club house, a deck, etc..) and so I have always been fascinated in wood construction. Now I am able to learn the properties of wood and how it can be used in design.

What has been the best part of your engineering education?
There are two things that have made my education enjoyable so far. The first is the fact that I am learning things that I can apply to real life. I know how to design safe structures or why things have been designed they way they have been. I like to say that I know “the secrets of the town”.  The second is I love the friends I have made. Together we help each other through assignments and ensure we all understand how to solve problems. We tackle the difficulties of engineering together.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?
I hope to be a structural engineer in a consulting firm. I want to apply my knowledge from school in designing buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure.
