The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) Ottawa Network is seeking competitors to participate in the Present Around The World (PATW) competition, an engineering competition open to university and college students or recent graduates (18 – 30 years old) in an engineering or technology field. We are looking for competitors from Algonquin College, Queens University, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, RMC, La Cite Collegiale, and University of Quebec.

Individual competitors are asked to deliver a 10-minute presentation on a technical topic followed by a 5-minute question and answer period. The presentation can be based on a co-op experience, a research project, or an internship if desired, but any topic in a science or engineering field is welcome. The emphasis is to develop participants’ presentation skills (70% of the evaluation) with a lesser focus on the technical content (30% of the evaluation), enabling competitors through various levels of studies or careers to participate on equal footing. The presentations are delivered in front of a panel of judges as well as an audience. Presentations are given through three different competition rounds – local network, regional, and global. Winners at each level proceed onwards. There are cash prizes to be won at each stage and all expenses paid travel for competitors at the regional and global levels.

The Ottawa Local Network’s PATW will be hosted at Carleton University on Mar 12th 2016 (facilitated by Carleton’s Bachelor’s of Information Technology Society). The deadline for registration is Mar 10th 2016 at 12:00 PM. The winner from Ottawa will be sent to North American Regional Finals at Toronto, Canada. If successful at the regional level, they will be sent to London, England for the Global Finals all expenses paid.

If you are interested or if you know anyone who may be interested in participating, please register for this event. Competitors need to reserve their slot using Eventbrite. IET-Members/Non-Members are also encouraged to register.

It’s absolutely free to participate, compete or even to attend the event. IET Members/Non-Members can attend at no cost. This will be a great opportunity to become visible to the world via the IET and provide a network to industry leaders.

Please visit the Institution of Engineering & Technology’s website for more information on the competition and rules.
