This past summer, EURUS Master’s student Catherine Malezis conducted field research in southern  Kyrgyzstan. Her major research paper focuses on cross-border trade between Kyrgyz and Uzbek people,  groups which have resided in the Ferghana Valley for many years, but have recently experienced violent conflict. In spite of these recent circumstances, Catherine’s work discusses the importance of  open-air markets (bazaars) as a starting point for greater pluralism in the region. Catherine’s research has been profiled in the November issue of FPA voices available here and by clicking on the pdf below. EURUS is very proud of Catherine and wishes her the best in her on-going studies!
