EURUS is very pleased to announce that professor Martin Geiger has been awarded a SSHRC Insight Development Grant in the 2015 competition. The project, “The International Organization for Migration (IOM): Legitimacy, Influence and Capacity through the Successful Management of External Relations”, will expand on Dr. Geiger’s previous IOM research. Specifically, he will examine IOM’s growing importance for migration politics and, “what this means for our understanding of international organizations, the outsourcing of central policy tasks, as well as the effectiveness and socio-political implications of new approaches to migration”.

Martin Geiger, is an Assistant Professor of Politics of Human Migration and Mobility with the Department of Political Science and Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies. Professor Geiger also organizes the Mobility and Politics Lecture Series: Emerging Trends and Common Challenges in Europe and Canada. The final series’ event this fall,  “Sanctuary City and the Refugee Crisis,”  will be held on Thursday December 3, 2015.
