During the past year, Neil Hauer, a third-year MA student at EURUS, took the student exchange opportunity in order to travel to St. Petersburg, traditionally considered Russia’s cultural centre. During this time, he attended Saint Petersburg State University for five months. Neil was pleasantly surprised by Russia’s diversity. Despite possessing knowledge about the Russian language and culture before his travels, he nonetheless noted how this experience helped him significantly improve his conversational skills, as well as his understanding of daily Russian life and local perceptions.
