Recycling is awesome but don’t forget about Reduce and Reuse:

It is important to remember that while recycling is great, it still requires vast amounts of energy to convert waste into new products. Reusing or eliminating the need for waste is always better than recycling. For example, avoid acquiring excess packaging and other waste. Instead of purchasing a bottle of water when on campus, bring a water bottle and fill it up at water fountains, or bring your own coffee mug to Roosters and other cafés so that you needn’t throw away an unrecyclable paper cup. Did you know that you get a discount on your coffee when you bring your own mug at all of the vendors on campus?

Electronic Waste Recycling (Computers, TVs, etc.):

Please contact CCS hardware services at ext. 4063 or email CCS_Hardware_Services@carleton.ca to arrange for recycling. Through the Ontario Electronics Stewardship (OES) program electronics are collected, recycled and/or disposed of in an environmentally responsible way. Click here to see a list of what can be collected through this program. Contact CCS Hardware Services for more information.

Large wood and metal recycling:

Call the FMP Service Centre at ext. 3668 to arrange for the items to be moved for recycling. There are two large 30-cubic yard bins in the maintenance yard for the recycling of scrap metal and large pieces of wood.

Moving and Special Events:

Are you moving or organizing an event that may need special waste collection or additional recycling bins? Contact the FMP Service Centre at ext. 3668 to find out how to make arrangements for your event. For example, any office move will often fill up at least one large blue recycling caddy with old papers and books. Rather than running around trying to find one and throwing out paper because you run out of space, plan ahead and the custodial staff will provide the bins you need.
