Stephen_LewisHumanitarian Stephen Lewis, the co-director of AIDS-Free World, will deliver a keynote address on September 18th entitled, “Education: The World’s Greatest Force for Good” as part of Carleton’s 2015 homecoming celebration, Throwback.

Mr. Lewis will explore the ways in which education transforms the lives people lead throughout the world and is perhaps the greatest unacknowledged instrument we have for dramatic social change.

His career includes more than two decades of work for the United Nations. He was Canada’s Ambassador to the UN in the 1980s, the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF in the 1990s, and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa from June 2001 until the end of 2006.

He is now the co-founder and co-director of AIDS-Free World in the United States and the co-founder and board chair of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

He is also a Professor of Distinction at Ryerson University in Toronto and a Professor of Practice in Global Governance at the Institute for the Study of International Development at McGill University.
