FPA Connects is about building connections between FPA students and their university, local, national, and international communities. Our focus this year is civic engagement and the 2015 Federal Election.

We’ll talk to youth who are changing their communities; we’ll find out what the political parties really stand for; and we’ll hear from Carleton alumni who are making a career out of politics and the public service.

FPA Connects: Energize…

The election may be over, but civic engagement doesn’t end there. We are hosting a panel discussion about “How To Get That Job” with young professionals working in the political realm. The event will be hosted by Justin Ling, the Canadian politics reporter for VICE. A self-described “muckraking investigative journalist” he has provided many of the most-talked about and viral pieces during the 2015 election campaign.

The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception.

Our panel includes Carleton alumni:

  • Michael Qaqish, (Bachelor of Arts, Psychology) is the Ottawa City Councillor for Ward 22 (Gloucester-South Nepean).
  • Elaine Larsen (Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management and Master of Political Management) currently works for the government relations firm The Capital Hill Group and is the volunteer Director of the Head Start Young Women Network.
  • Ashton Arsenault (Master of Political Management) has held a number of political positions and most recently served as the Campaign Manager for candidate Andy Wang in Nepean during the last federal election.
  • Kristina Martin (Master of Political Management) is currently the Senior Manager of Communications at Actua, Canada’s largest science and technology outreach organization and has held a number of previous positions in political communications.
