Prior to entering private business Blaine Hoshizaki was employed as a professor for fifteen years at the Universities of Victoria, Lakehead and McGill. He left the university environment to enter the sporting business in the early nineties and subsequently decided to return to academics the fall of 2004 in the School of Human Kinetics in Ottawa. His academic and business administrative experiences provide a foundation to support the challenges faced in the Directors position. Recently his research has primarily focused on understanding the mechanism of head injuries in sport. His research involves establishing better criterion variables to apply in developing more accurate injury models. He is also involved in research directed at identifying the injury risk and mechanism of injury to all parts of the body during sporting activities. He presently sits on the American, Canadian and European standards committees for sport equipment and chairs the International Standard Committee for ice hockey equipment. He participated on the NHL Advisory Panel for the reduction of injuries in the NHL.
