Dr. Susan Pisterman 

Susan holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and an MBA from the University of Ottawa, Executive MBA Program.   Her consulting practice draws from over 30 years of experience as a mental health practitioner, researcher, educator, program developer and evaluator and senior administrator. Susan has worked closely with Carleton University over the past six years, initially helping develop the award-winning Student Mental Health Framework, the first of its kind in Canada and now on Carleton’s workplace mental health and wellness initiative.

She began her career as a registered clinical psychologist, researcher and director of training in psychology at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and maintained a private practice for many years, serving children, youth, adults and families.

At mid-career she obtained an MBA and worked in a number of senior positions at the University of Ottawa, Health Sciences Faculty, the Canadian Nurses Association and Foundation, and the Sisters of Charity where she was Associate VP, Medical and Academic.

In her consulting practice, Susan works closely with public and private sector organizations in developing strategic, business and operational plans; facilitating workshops, team development and national initiatives; conducting research; developing and evaluating programs; and conducting assessments in support of career management, team and leadership coaching.

She sees her role as empowering people and organizations to better understand themselves, develop critical awareness of the environments in which they operate, assist them in making informed decisions and taking action.

She has served on the Board of the Youth Services Bureau and the Board of the Andrew Fleck Child Cares Services, both in Ottawa.

She was an Ontario Mental Health Foundation Senior Research Fellow and has been honoured by her peers as a Fellow of the Clinical Section of the Canadian Psychology Association.
