Description of Research:

My research studies Montreal’s crime scene photography from the 1940s to the 1960s. I study the ways in which these photographs were produced, their aesthetics and design, as well as the role they have played in the remembrance of Montreal’s criminal history in historiography and museology. My project includes the creation of an online exhibition of Montreal crime scene photography that contextualizes their production and addresses the questions of ethics and memory in regards to their cultural reproduction in present-day exhibition spaces.
