What is Make in India?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Make in India initiative on September 25, 2014, with the primary goal of making India a global manufacturing hub, by encouraging both multinational as well as domestic companies to manufacture their products within the country.

This is a major national initiative designed to facilitate investment; foster innovation; enhance skill development; protect intellectual property, and build best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure. There’s never been a better time to Make in India.

In just over two years, Make in India has been powered by an in-depth overhaul of processes, policies and collaborative effort, yielding significant results. India’s rank in the Doing Business Report 2015 was 142 among 189 countries, which improved to 130 in the Doing Business Report, 2016. The Government of India has emphasized the importance of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ as a major pillar of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and it is working extensively on improving India’s rank in the World Bank Group’s Doing Business Study.
