Considering an iPad for work? Just got one at the office and wondering what to do next? A whirlwind introduction to using iPads in the workplace—bring your iPad or iPhone if you have one. Informed by the Carleton.ca/iTeam initiative.
Course Syllabus
• Choosing the right tool
– Is an iPad the right device for you?
– WiFi vs 3G iPads; data plans; traveling with your iPad
• Introduction to the iPad
– Locking screen-orientation
– Using Folders and gestures
– Troubleshooting: charging, rebooting
• Security/recovering a Lost iPad
– minimize passcode prompting
– naming your device
– Enabling remote tracking
• Connect to your University:
– WiFI, Email, Network drives, VPN, Printing, Projecting
• Getting files onto your iPad
– iTunes, eMail, Network shares, Dropbox
• iPad Apps
– Notes App
– editing basics: copying, pasting
– access Notes content from your computer; Voice dictation (iPad mini, iPad3 or newer)
– Reading Apps: Kindle, ibooks, Zinio, Newsstand, overdrive, Instapaper
– Notetaking with a stylus
– MS Office files: reading, editing
– Presentations: Keynote, PowerPoint, PDF
– Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest…
– Remote screensharing to your desktop (when only a PC or Mac will do)
