All applicants for the DFL program will be contacted by the Program Coordinator for an initial discussion on interests.

Clients served by many of the partner agencies are considered a vulnerable population and agencies may require a Police Record Check (PRC). All applicants for the DFL program are urged to begin the process of obtaining a PRC, please contact Cindi Resnick at cindiresnick@rogers.com to receive a PRC letter from Carleton University.

 Agency Placement Assignments

  • Placement should blend hands-on delivery experience with some leadership exposure
  • If possible, some exposure to management meetings or board meetings
  • If possible, a specific project which the intern is expected to deliver within the internship period
  • Some exposure to /interaction with  professional staff, management  and clients
  • Clear agreement with interns on :
    • their goals for their placement,
    • what the agency expects of them
    • how they will be evaluated
  • Internships are for a total of 80 hours during the academic year (plus 20 hours of training). Agencies may work out a shared arrangement for potential internships with the DFL program, depending on the intern’s skills.
