Dueling Pianos celebrates a father and son relationship, with all its’ challenges. It powerfully presents with two voices, two generations speaking to the timeline of sacrifice to triumph, of one generation passing its best on to the next. It speaks to the determination of the father, a new Canadian and renaissance leader, inspiring the qualities he now shares with his son; and moves audiences to consider the inspirational role of music in all our lives.
Dueling Pianos takes us on the journey through pain and joy in reaching for and attaining excellence by using masterful renditions of Canada’s own Oscar Peterson’s ‘Hymn to Freedom’, John Coltrane’s ‘Giant Steps’ and more… all arranged for two pianos. The musicians weave musical classics from Jazz, Classical, Calypso, Reggae, Pop and The Blues into their story, showing how the father prepared his son to understand and embrace his historical roots, the roots of music and the world’s great musicians.
For the father, Dueling Pianos is his legacy. The son, for his part, shows us how his father’s mentoring, nurturing, teaching, listening and unwavering support, shaped his diverse musical abilities and his life.
