Resilience is often described as your ability to bounce back from adversity. Resilient individuals are flexible, adaptable, and have the ability to overcome stressful situations and life challenges – important building blocks of individual and organizational health and well-being.

Everyone is born with a natural resilience. This workshop will teach participants that with improved self-awareness and practice, they can continue to strengthen and develop their abilities to be resilient in the face of difficult or challenging situations.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Understand why some people thrive in challenging situations, while others become overwhelmed.
  • Recognize how their attitudes, actions, and choices contribute to their resilience.
  • Be aware of the mind-body connection and how it can either support or hijack resilient attitudes.
  • Implement strategies for thriving under pressure, including in the face of organizational change.

Structure

Delivered as 3.5 hour instructor-led workshop for staff and faculty.

The workshop begins with asking and answering two fundamental questions: What is resilience? Why is it important? From here, participants will explore the resources of resiliency, including response to change, perspective and positive attitude, and setting boundaries. An exercise on hardiness will help participants better understand this critical skill and move into learning how our explanatory style influences resiliency. A discussion on change and emotional intelligence is essential to this topic. Participants will then begin an in-depth exploration of steps they can take now to become more resilient, such as building a supportive network, evaluating and adjusting priorities, and maintaining an optimistic inner voice. The workshop concludes with how participants can apply resilience in their lives – at home and work – and impact that a resilient workforce has on organizational success.
