    Biography

    Dr. Xin-Xiang Jiang is currently a senior structure engineer working on transportation safety in Canadian Federal Government. From 1998 to 2013, he worked as postdoc, research scientist and senior research scientist in Space Science & Technology Branch, Canadian Space Agency (CSA). He obtained his Ph.D in Materials Science & Engineering from the Leeds University, England in 1997. His expertise is in the areas of smart materials and composite structures.
    He holds B.Eng and M.Eng, obtained respectively in 1983 and 1986 from the department of materials, south China University of Technology, China. Prior to joining the Canadian Space Agency, He also worked as material research scientist in Chinese National Key Laboratory in Powder Metallurgy between 1986 and 1992 and as visiting scientist in the Manchester Material Science Center, UK, during the period from March 1992 to May 1993.
    He has won several awards, including 2011 CSA Invention Award (CSA, 2011), Director’s Award for his original research (2006, CSA), NSERC Visiting Fellowship (1998, Canada), British Overseas Student Award (England, 1996), Tetley-Lupton Scholarship (England, 1994-1996).

    Areas of research interest:

    • Composite materials and structures and its space and aerospace applications
    • Intelligent materials and system, particularly in shape memory alloy actuator technology and their applications in aerospace, robotic and medical devices.
