Lee MacLean received her PhD in political theory from the University of Toronto in 2002. Her primary research interests are in the history of political philosophy and in feminist political philosophy. In the history of political philosophy, she is especially interested in the themes of nature, convention and politics; early modern conceptions of liberty; democratic theory; ethics and politics; and responses to moral relativism. In feminist political philosophy, her current research focuses on gender, diversity and agency; standpoint theory; intersectional theories; and feminist responses to the market economy. She has specialized in the study of Rousseau’s work.  Her book The Free Animal: Rousseau on Free Will and Human Nature was published July 2013 by the University of Toronto Press.
