The Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) is responsible for supporting Carleton University’s faculty, instructors, and librarians – providing effective tools to engage with students; to foster excellence in academics and teaching; and to provide leadership.
Dr. Joy Mighty, the Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) oversees three main units that provide teaching and learning services:
- The Educational Development Centre (EDC) is dedicated to the support of teaching excellence at Carleton University. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive range of technological and pedagogical teaching tools and resources to faculty, instructors and teaching assistants in order to ensure an exceptional learning experience for students in the classroom and beyond.
- Carleton University Online (CUOL) provides alternative and flexible access to many Carleton credit courses. Now in its 34th year of operation, more than 80,000 students from the Ottawa area and around the world have used CUOL courses to learn and complete a university degree program.
- Instructional Media Services (IMS) assists with classroom technology support needs, whether audio/visual and multimedia equipment for classroom instruction, special events or conferences.
The OAVPTL supports Carleton University’s core mission by promoting excellence in teaching and learning and by encouraging the creation and sharing of knowledge derived from interdisciplinary and diverse curricula that are enhanced by multiple global perspectives and innovative high-impact practices.
