We are moving forward with the IDRC funded research led by Bjarki Hallgrimsson and the School of Industrial Design.  The grant is supporting the involvement of fourth year industrial design students in product development with the CanUgan Project, developing hand propelled tricycles and other products for persons with disabilities in the Kasese District of Uganda.

We had a setback in that our visitors from Kasese who we had hoped to bring to Carleton in November have had their visa’s refused.  We will continue with the November workshops and hope to have the Uganda participants involved online.  A key part of the November activities will include the Peeter Kruus Memorial Lecture featuring Noel Wilson. Noel, a Carleton grad, has spent the last two years as Lead Designer for Catapult Design in San Francisco, a product and process design firm that helps its clients develop tools to alleviate poverty within underestimated/underserved communities worldwide.

This lecture has been supported by John Buschek, Chair of Technology Society and Environment studies and is a free public event on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 7:00 pm in 101 Azreili Theatre
