Exam Accommodations

The only beverage permitted in the McIntyre Exam Centre is water – in a sealable, transparent, non-breakable container. Food and beverages, other than water, are not permitted in the Exam Centre – except for students with a PMC documented accommodation requiring food or drink during a test. Food brought to the exam centre must be cold and/or room temperature.

• For tests and midterms – the date, time and building where you are writing will be available in Ventus, 7 days before your exam, with the final arrangement confirmation sent via email 3 days before your test date.
  

• For final exams – the date, time and building where you will write will be posted in Ventus, 14 days before your final exam.
  

Should you choose to write with your class, please be sure to email us as soon as you can to inform us that you will be cancelling your seat reservation at MEC. This allows us to offer the seat to another student waiting to write a test/exam.

• Check the Ventus Student Portal to confirm if your exam arrangement has been confirmed.
• If there is no email in your Carleton inbox, contact your instructor to verify that the upcoming test has been booked with the McIntyre Exam Centre.
• Should this not resolve the issue, please contact your PMC coordinator to ensure you have test accommodations set for the class.

NOTE: Just registered with the PMC? If you have just registered for accommodations within one week of an upcoming test/exam, MEC may not be able to accommodate you for that particular test/exam.

If you have changes that need to be made to your accommodations please contact the PMC.  The McIntyre Exam Centre cannot change your accommodations without approval from your PMC coordinator. Whenever possible, we ask that we be notified of accommodation changes two (2) weeks in advance. Changes made within one week of an upcoming exam will not be reflected on that particular exam reservation. 

All front-line staff at MEC have received training in AODA standards, harassment and violence, as well as training in the use of adaptive technology and furniture. Front-line staff are available to assist students and proctors during office hours, as needed.

No Carleton student is required to pay for the accommodations they receive when writing a test/exam for a Carleton course.

MEC has designated quiet spaces at, or near, each of our two primary writing locations. If you are entitled to a supervised break, one of our proctors will escort you to the designated break spot and will remain with you as you enjoy your break.

Your snack will be stored away from your writing space when you begin the exam. When you would like to take your snack break, please alert one of our proctors and they will assist with this.

Due to the high volume of students being seated to write final exams, it is not possible to host all students at a dedicated MEC facility. Students requiring adaptive furniture or an alone room will be prioritized at our dedicated exam centres. As such, you may be writing your final in another location, but you will still have complete access to all of your accommodations.
