The Greatest Comic Book of All TimeWhy are some cultural works celebrated by critics and scholars, while others – perhaps equally good and certainly equally beloved by their audiences – languish unrecognized? The Greatest Comic Book of All Time: Symbolic Capital and the Field of American Comic Books, a new book by Bart Beaty and School of Journalism and Communication Assistant Professor Benjamin Woo, explores the social and institutional dynamics that shape prestige in this cultural industry.

The Greatest Comic Book of All Time is one of the first wave of titles in the new Palgrave Studies in Comics and Graphic Novels series, and Beaty and Woo are maintaining a blog in support of the book.

A launch party will be held in Toronto on May 12, 2016, as part of the annual conference of The Canadian Society for the Study of Comics / Société canadienne pour l’étude de la bande dessinée. The event will also celebrate the release of Garbage by Mathew Reichertz, the print version of a painting installation recently exhibited at the Carleton University Art Gallery, with an introduction by Dr. Woo.

The CSSC/SCEBD conference is held in conjunction with the Toronto Comic Arts Festival at the Toronto Reference Library on May 14–15.
