My Communication Studies degree helped me to recognize and understand the audience (the Canadian public) and their unique needs—Priyanka Verma, ‘15
I obtained my current position through the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FWSEP) while I was still an undergraduate student. Since 2013, I have been employed by Statistics Canada as a Desktop Publishing Specialist. I am responsible for the dissemination of information via the Statistics Canada website. I both develop new HTML content for the website, as well as maintain and update information that is currently online. What I enjoy most about my job is having the behind the scenes experience of the communications process; it’s given me a great appreciation of online content, since I now know how much work it can take for it to be available to us as the audience.Sometimes, the human aspect is forgotten in a technological landscape. Studying communication and media helped me better understand the concept of audience.
