Linguavision 2016 hit the stage March 30th with its 2nd annual showcase of musical and language talent amongst Carleton University language students.

This year’s event was held in the KM Theatre and included 19 entries in 7 different languages (English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish) and crossed in a wide range of musical genres and performance styles.

Prizes were awarded in two main categories: open and original.  Songs in the open category included songs written by other artists and performed either with instruments or to a karaoke backing track.  Songs in the original category were written by students.  Additional prizes were also awarded in Audience Choice and Judges’ Choice categories.

Open category:

  • 1st Prize: Emily Shepherd (French)
  • 2nd Prize: Gowlene Selvavijayan (German)
  • 3rd Prize: Taylor Robillard (Spanish)
  • Honourable Mention: Kristen & Rebecca (French)
  • Honourable Mention: Kelsey Hayes (Mandarin Chinese)

Original category:

  • 1st Prize: Jesse & Jordan – “Annoyances” (Mandarin Chinese)
  • 2nd Prize: Evie & SETH – “Light & Wind” (Japanese & English)
  • 3rd Prize: Winter – “Mich Nicht Erreicht” (German)

Audience Choice:

  • K-Squad (Korean) and Die Fantastische Drei (German)

Judges’ Choice:

  • Arian Bashtar (French), Charles Bougard (Japanese), Sunny Tang (English), Go Tiger (French), and Stephanie Zhu (Japanese)
