Graduate Admission

Students wishing to proceed to a graduate degree at the University must apply for admission online and be formally admitted. For admission requirements, application procedures, and deadlines see the Graduate Calendar or the Graduate Studies Admissions website.

University of Ottawa Exchange

Graduate students wishing to take courses at the University of Ottawa must obtain approval from their home department and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs prior to obtaining approval at the host department and Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the University of Ottawa.  Students need to complete the University of Ottawa/Carleton University Graduate Student Exchange Form which is available at the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs office, Room 512, Tory Building.

Graduate Students from the University of Ottawa wishing to take courses at Carleton University must obtain approval from their home department and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies prior to obtaining approval at the host department and Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs at Carleton University.  These approvals should be obtained prior to May 1, 2017.

Ontario Visiting Graduate Student Exchange (OVGS)

Graduate students from Carleton wishing to take courses at other Ontario universities must obtain approval from their home department and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA) prior to obtaining approval at the host department and Faculty of Graduate Studies at the host university. The application form can be found on the FGPA website.

Graduate students from other Ontario universities must obtain approval from their home department and Faculty of Graduate Studies at their home university prior to obtaining approval from the host department and FGPA at Carleton university. These approvals should be obtained prior to May 1, 2017.

Joint Program Courses Being Taught at the University of Ottawa

Only Joint Program graduate students from Carleton can register in Joint Program courses being taught at the University of Ottawa. Non-joint program graduate students who wish to take a joint program course being taught at the University of Ottawa need to apply through the University of Ottawa/Carleton University Graduate Student Exchange Form which is available at FGPA, Room 512, Tory Building.

PLEASE NOTE: Undergraduate Carleton students and Special Students CANNOT be approved to register for graduate Joint Program courses being taught at the University of Ottawa. These courses are available to Joint Program Graduate students ONLY.

Release of Grades and Official Transcripts

With the commencement of each final examination period, students may access their grades via Carleton Central. Students who require official transcripts must order them through Carleton Central.

English Language Proficiency Requirement

Students whose native language is not English will be required to meet the University English language proficiency requirements.   For more information, visit the Graduate Admissions website.
