The VSIM Cognitive Science Team includes seven researchers who are also associated with the Centre for Applied Cognitive Research (CACR) . These researchers conduct basic and applied research on human cognition on topics such as attention and performance, language and memory.

As part of VSIM’s interdisciplinary core, the Cognitive Science Team contributes to interdisciplinary projects by linking knowledge about human cognition to issues in designing complex human-in-the-loop systems.

For example, research on factors in cognitive health involves consideration of the limits imposed on human attention and performance when driving a car of piloting an aircraft.

Other research contributes to interdisciplinary projects by examining visualization and modelling of complex concepts and systems.

Members of the cognitive science team have partnered with high-tech industry, government and with other research organizations to link together an understanding of human cognition with technology in the areas in which VSIM excels.
