Economist, author, former political advisor and public servant, Denise is best known for her family memoir, The Concubine’s Children, a Globe and Mail bestseller for 93 weeks and one of the first non-fiction narratives of a Chinese family in Canada, first published in 1994 and re-released in 2014 as a Penguin Modern Classic. She has published three other titles of equally ground-breaking social histories. In 2013, she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
