Leanne is currently a diploma student in Carleton’s first cohort of the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership program. As a research associate at the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation, she will examine ways to increase civic and public engagement through a web based, national story-telling project.
Leanne has a diverse background working with governments, universities, nonprofits and the media. Before returning to university, Leanne worked at the David Suzuki Foundation as a senior communications and public engagement specialist. Prior to that she was a journalist with CBC radio for seven years. Leanne began her working life as an international policy advisor for both the Alberta government and the University of Alberta.
Her volunteer experience includes working in Nepal as a Canadian Crossroads International co-operant and leading the Seminar on United Nations and International Affairs as its executive director.
Leanne has a Masters of Arts in Journalism from Western University and an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta.
