Sasha is originally from Estel\u00ed, Nicaragua but spent most of her life in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she completed a B.A. International Studies honours degree in the Latin American Stream. She is currently undertaking her Master\u2019s in Public Administration with a concentration in International and Development Policy at Carleton University\u2019s School of Public Policy and Administration. She has a passion for social justice issues and international cooperation, which has motivated her extensive involvement in organizations and initiatives that are working for equitable economic, social, and environmental policies at local, national, and international levels. Some of her experience includes: organizing with 350.org for fair, ambitious, and binding climate treaties at the UNFCCC Climate Conferences in Copenhagen (2009) and in Paris (2015); collaborating with government officials, educators, parents, children and other stakeholders to develop a Child Protection Policy in Nicaragua while on an internship with the Government of Canada\u2019s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development; and contributing to the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat\u2019s international engagement policy by assisting with the coordination of official diplomatic visits to the department.
