From Turtle Island\/ Canada to Aotearoa\/New Zealand, fishing composes an essential element of sustenance, identity, and livelihood for Indigenous peoples. Central to this livelihood is an inherent right – and related responsibility – to self-determination, over the cultural, political, and ecological relationships that compose fishing practices.<\/p>\n

The Future of Maori and First Nations Fisheries is a film screening and transnational discussion about how Indigenous peoples\u00a0are envisioning the future of their respective fisheries, against a backdrop of state-imposed management and regulation.<\/p>\n
