In the last several decades social finance and ethical investment have become increasingly important and sought after investment methods. For example portfolios with social investment started as early as 1984, which according to the Social Investment Forum were worth around $40 billion. This number grew to $639 billion a decade later and to $2.3 trillion in 2001.<\/p>\n<p><b>Date:\u00a0<\/b>Thursday, April 3, 2014<\/p>\n<p><b>Time:\u00a0<\/b>From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><b>Location:\u00a0<\/b>Telfer School of Management<\/p>\n<p>Desmarais Building<br \/>\nDMS 4101<br \/>\n55 Laurier Avenue East<br \/>\nOttawa ON K1N 6N5<\/p>\n<p>We have invited the following academics and professionals to share their thoughts, knowledge and experience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr. Tessa Hebb<\/strong>, Director of the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation and Chair of the steering committee of the United Nations backed Principles for Responsible Investment Academic Network<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rosalie Vendette<\/strong>, Socially Responsible Investment Senior Advisor and support for Desjardins Group\u2019s Marketing, Wealth Management team in developing and implementing Social Responsible Investment strategies. She has worked in socially responsible investing for 10 years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nancy Kyte<\/strong>\u00a0is a Senior Portfolio Manager in Treasury at Export Development Canada.\u00a0 She is responsible for raising fund in the global capital markets to fund the corporation\u2019s needs.\u00a0 Together with her funding colleagues, she was responsible for the issuance of EDC\u2019s first Green Bond.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cameron Fenton<\/strong>\u00a0is the national director of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition. He developed a passion for do it yourself organizing as a teenager in the Edmonton music scene, starting both a promotion company and record label and connecting music with grassroots movements for social and environmental justice.\u00a0After moving to Montreal to study at Concordia University Cameron became increasingly involved in climate organizing<\/li>\n<li><strong>Karim Harji<\/strong>\u00a0is a co-founder and partner at Purpose Capital, where he advises investors, foundations, and financial institutions globally on how to align their investment strategies with their social impact objectives. \u00a0He is the co-author of Accelerating Impact: Achievements, Challenges and What\u2019s Next in Building the Impact Investing Industry. \u00a0Karim teaches social entrepreneurship at the University of Toronto, and is a Senior Research Associate at the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation at Carleton University. He is the co-founder of SocialFinance.ca, and holds an MPA from Carleton University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Join us to discuss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The debate about the role and position of corporations in communities and societies from the perspective of public and private investment funds<\/li>\n<li>Considering that assets under management undergoing social and environmental screening has gone form $40 billion in 1984 to $2.3 trillion in 2001, is there a transformation occurring in the financial services industry?<\/li>\n<li>Should public and private institutional pension funds be considering social financial instruments and integrating corporate social responsibility principles into its investment strategy and policy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prominent and distinguished experts will be invited to answer a number of questions\u00a0<strong>moderated by<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Associate Professor Penelope Simons, Associate Professor and Interim Director HRREC<\/strong>. Upon the conclusion of the questions, the audience will be encouraged to ask questions.
