The Student Philanthropy Association is a team of dedicated students with a passion for both their university and philanthropy. Read below to get to know a little bit more about who they are, what they do, and why student philanthropy matters to them!
Design and Branding Ambassador
Millie (she/her) is in her fourth year of Health Sciences, concentrating in Disability & Chronic Illness. She is also working on a minor in Communications & Media Studies. In addition to her work with the SPA, Millie is the President of the Carleton Science Student Society and works as a Healthcare Team Coordinator for the Science Student Success Centre. Hailing from Brockville, Ontario, Millie loves Carleton’s well-established culture of help and support. She’s passionate about philanthropy because she believes that even something small can help make a significant impact on someone’s life and wellbeing.
In her work as the Design & Branding ambassador, Millie plans and develops digital and physical content to support SPA’s campaigns and goals. She is also responsible for overseeing the SPA social media portfolio, in addition to in-person outreach alongside the rest of the team.
Community Engagement Ambassador
Andrew (he/him) is in his fourth year of Global & International Studies, with a specialization in Globalization, Culture, and Power. He grew up in Newmarket but has made a home for himself here in Ottawa and in the Carleton community. In addition to his work at SPA, Andrew has volunteered and worked with the Student Experience Office throughout each year of his degree. This has included involvement in Alternative Spring Break and Campus to Community, both excellent opportunities to learn more about Carleton’s philanthropic efforts. He has also performed in shows with Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre Company, written articles for the Charlatan, and done photography for events around campus. Andrew loves the welcoming community that he has found at Carleton, and is very grateful for all that it has provided him. He is passionate about philanthropy as a way of community building and creating a culture of reciprocity.
As a Community Engagement Ambassador, Andrew is also responsible for turning SPA campaigns from vision to reality. He assists in brainstorming and implementing specific strategies, building relationships with campus partners, and ensuring tabling and presentation initiatives run smoothly. He also supports the rest of the team with in-person and digital outreach.
