She\u2019s been an active member of the campus community since her undergraduate years as a volunteer, fitness teacher, teaching assistant, and employee. Since coming to Carleton, she\u2019s graduated with both her BA and MA in Anthropology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During her time so far at Carleton, Karina has donated to a number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futurefunder.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FutureFunder<\/a>\u00a0initiatives. Most recently, she decided to donate to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futurefunder.carleton.ca\/giving-fund\/cie-esp-mentoring-program-giving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre for Initiatives in Education (CIE) \u2013 Enriched Support Program (ESP) Mentoring Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked why she was initially inspired to give back to Carleton and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futurefunder.carleton.ca\/giving-fund\/cie-esp-mentoring-program-giving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CIE-ESP Mentoring Program<\/a>, Karina explained she deeply appreciated the support she received from mentors and administrators on campus who gave great advice and helped her navigate academic challenges over the years. She hopes her contributions can help others have a meaningful and fulfilling university experience just as she had.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s easy to begin giving. There are so many options for donating to an initiative or fund you care about\u201d said Karina.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"behind-the-donor-curtain\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Behind the Donor Curtain<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do you have a favourite quote or personal motto?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Alok Vaid-Menon, comedian, poet, speaker, and author, says \u201cCompassion over comprehension\u201d in reference to the importance of the safety and dignity of trans and marginalized folks. This inspires me to bring compassion into how I shape my work, my values, and my connections to others.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you could go back in time, what profession other than your own would you like to try?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I liked the idea of exploring space and seeing our Earth as an astronaut, but then I read Chris Hadfield\u2019s book and the training seemed too intense and isolating for me! I think I\u2019d be an outdoor educator and combine academia with my love for the outdoors.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is your favourite spot on Carleton\u2019s campus?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The greenspaces on campus. They are what initially drew me to Carleton.
