University has a long history of gas turbine engine research and development for <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/areas-of-focus\/advanced-propulsion-systems\/\">advanced propulsion systems<\/a>. One of the most prominent personalities in this sector was Emeritus Professor Herbert H. Saravanamutto who taught in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Saravanamuttoo worked as young engineer on the Rolls-Royce Olympus engines of the Concorde supersonic transport aircraft, and authored one of best-selling textbook entitled <em>Gas Turbine Theory<\/em> from Pearson Educational Canada, which saw six editions over the last 50 years.
