Carleton is located on a single campus, which allows for significant collaboration across all faculties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Engineers, computer scientists, economists, biologists, psychologists and professors from other fields work together at Carleton to address aerospace challenges, and they collaborate with researchers from external companies and government agencies in the Ottawa region and beyond.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1386\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1386\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1386 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.6.jpg\" alt=\"aces.in.aerospace.1200x680.6\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.6.jpg 600w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.6-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1386\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeremy Lalibert\u00e9, Director of Carleton Aerospace briefs the group.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 10 journalists, who work for publications in Japan, Italy, Belgium, Austria, the United States and the United Kingdom, visited aerospace research institutions and companies in four cities \u2014 Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg \u2014 on a tour organized by Global Affairs Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really good opportunity to showcase this sector to these highly specialized journalists,\u201d said Alexandra Pugh, manager of Communications, Investment and Trade at Invest Ottawa, which facilitated the local stop.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1389 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.10.jpg\" alt=\"aces.in.aerospace.1200x680.10\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.10.jpg 600w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.10-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.10-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12\">\n<p>The media coverage that results will reach aerospace industry leaders and government officials around the world \u2014 a targeted approach that could lead to partnerships and other opportunities that benefit both Carleton and the regional aerospace cluster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a strong knowledge-based tech industry in the Ottawa area \u2014 a lot of talent development and R&amp;D happens here,\u201d said Pugh. \u201cThere are some great aerospace companies, a mix of multinationals and innovative small companies, with access to key federal government departments and decision-makers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We picked Carleton because it is renowned for its world-class aerospace program.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1388 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.9.jpg\" alt=\"aces.in.aerospace.1200x680.9\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.9.jpg 600w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.9-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.9-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ottawa portion of the tour also included visits to ING Robotic Aviation, the National Research Council\u2019s test facilities near the Ottawa airport, and Lixar IT.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Carleton stop focused on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), passenger experience and flight simulation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Three professors, Steve Ulrich, Robert Langlois and Carleton Aerospace Director Jeremy Lalibert\u00e9, delivered short presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Ulrich covered the history and evolution of Carleton\u2019s aerospace program, highlighting the fact that the university has the largest undergraduate aerospace program in Canada and the largest group of graduate students.<\/p>\n<p>Lalibert\u00e9 talked about UAVs, his specialty as a researcher. He mentioned a recent Carleton project that explored the use of low-cost UAVs to do crop surveys. \u201cIt\u2019s a low-cost solution so farmers can monitor crops on demand, without requiring more costly technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1387 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.8.jpg\" alt=\"aces.in.aerospace.1200x680.8\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.8.jpg 600w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.8-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.8-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Langlois began his presentation by holding up a cardboard coffee cup cut into strips to resemble a rotorcraft. After he threw the cup into the air and it slowly descended, he talked about Carleton\u2019s work toward developing cost-effective flight simulation tools.<\/p>\n<p>The Carleton Flyboys, four undergraduate students who developed an automated smart system that uses biometrics for airport check-in\/check-out instead of conventional boarding documents, delivered the afternoon\u2019s final presentation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_1384\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1384\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1384 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.4.jpg\" alt=\"aces.in.aerospace.1200x680.4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/aerospace\/wp-content\/uploads\/aces.in_.aerospace.1200x680.4-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1384\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Flyboys \u2014 Mostafa Abdelfattah, Abdelrahman Awad, Ahmed Shabaan and Mohamed Shabaan \u2014 were the only Canadian team to make it to the finals of the Airbus \u201cFly Your Ideas\u201d video competition last year.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cCarleton is very strong in aerospace and this visit will help make people aware of the broad range of activities that our program is involved in,\u201d said Rafik Goubran, Dean of the research-intensive Faculty of Engineering and Design.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe have expertise in sensors, data analytics, software engineering, human fatigue and many more areas, and many of these disciplines are integrated with one another.
