Context<\/span><\/b>: As part of its \u2018Preservation of Knowledge\u2019 program, the project has introduced the \u2018Afghan Academic Advancement Grant\u2019 for Afghan at-risk scholars who have resettled in Canada in the last three years.\u00a0This grant is aimed at supporting Afghan at-risk scholars to finalize and submit a scholarly article for publication. The grant is intended for Afghan scholars who are in the advanced stages of preparing an academic paper for publication. The purpose and aim of the grant are to provide funding to enable access feedback and mentorship from experts to journals, professional editing, proofreading services etc.<\/p>\n

The Program<\/b>: A cohort of seven academics-researchers have started a three-month program that includes free participation in a Carleton University Initiative: <\/span>Academic Advancement and Career Alignment Certificate for New Scholars in Canada April 2024\u2019, mentorship program from UBC, and participation in an Academic Writing Workshop in UBC (in person) between March 2024-May 2024. The outcome of the grant is to contribute\/support in publications of academic papers by Afghan displaced scholars, thus preserving knowledge in displaced diaspora.<\/p>\n

The event: <\/b>The day long workshop included the following training and mentorship programs: Research Article Introductions in English; Understanding academic publishing: How to choose a journal; Exploring Unanswered Questions; Mentorship (UBC faculty mentors and mentees will have the chance to meet one-to-one to discuss the article they submitted prior to the workshop.
