SUMMARY:Sénghor and Biko: A Thesis Towards Black Consciousness
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the Brownbag Seminar entitled "Sénghor and Biko: A Thesis Towards Black Consciousness" by Sithole, Tendayi, (Professor, Department of Political Sciences, UNISA)
We invite you to a compelling seminar that explores the intersection of Negritude and Black Consciousness. In this presentation, Sithole, Tendayi (UNISA), will examine the concept of the thesis as the analytical fold that yields Black Consciousness, focusing on the relationship between Senghor and Biko.
Abstract:
This paper argues that the concept of the thesis is crucial to understanding Black Consciousness. By analyzing citationality as a practice, the discussion will explore the dialectic of intention and tension, drawing connections between Negritude and Black Consciousness. A key focus will be on how Biko’s philosophy of Black Consciousness was shaped through his engagement with Senghor's work, revealing a movement from the thetic to the thesis.
