Privatising God\u2019s Land: Heterotopia and the Enclosure of an Urban Intercommons in Johannesburg<\/p>\n

Eric Worby is Professor of Anthropology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, where he has previously served as Head of the School of Social Sciences (2006-2010) and Director of the Humanities Graduate Centre (2011-2017). He currently oversees an experimental doctoral programme in the Faculty of Humanities known as THInK (Transforming Humanities through Interdisciplinary Knowledge). His published research ranges widely across political anthropology and social theory as well as development, migration, urban and agrarian studies, drawing upon fieldwork in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania and Bangladesh. He previously taught at McGill (1994-96), where he completed his MA and PhD, and at Yale (1996-2006), where he served several times as Acting Director of the Program in Agrarian Studies.<\/p>\n
