The Talk
\n<\/strong>A former UN sanctions investigator will share insights from three years experience in the field monitoring and reporting on sanctions implementation, including how sanctions have affected the peace process in Somalia.\u00a0 More broadly, the talk will also discuss the ban on the export of charcoal from Somalia as a case study regarding the efficacy of UN natural resource sanctions.<\/p>\n

About the Guest Speaker
\n<\/strong>Charles Cater was appointed by the UN Secretary-General for three consecutive years as a natural resources expert for the Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group, which had an investigative mandate from the Security Council to monitor and report on sanctions implementation.\u00a0 He holds a DPhil in international relations from the University of Oxford.<\/p>\n
