Chido Onumah<\/strong> is coordinator of the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy in Abuja, Nigeria. He has\u00a0previously worked as Director of Africa programs for the Panos Institute in Washington, DC, helping journalists in West Africa report in-depth on issues that are frequently underreported or misreported. He holds a Ph.D. in communication and journalism from the Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona.<\/p>\n

On September 29th, 2019, Onumah was\u00a0arrested and detained by Nigeria’s State Security Services<\/a>\u00a0(SSS) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja for wearing a promotional T-shirt for his latest book entitled “We Are All Biafrans.\u201d A social media storm followed his arrest under the hashtag #FreeChidoOnumah and the SSS quickly released and denied arresting him.<\/p>\n
