\"\"The Institute of African Studies (IAS) invites you to join us on Tuesday October 11, 6 – 8 pm in Paterson Hall Room 303 for a dialogue about African identity, colonial histories and subjectivities.<\/p>\n

A talk by Zimbabwean\/Australian philosopher\/physician & 2022 IAS visiting scholar Dr. Bryan Mukandi from the University of Queensland’s School of Languages and Cultures.<\/p>\n

Professor Mukandi will speak about African subjectivity, conceptions of African identity and the rupture brought about by the Middle Passage and Colonialism.\u00a0\u00a0Drawing on African Philosophy and Black Studies,\u00a0\u00a0Mukandi argues for a conception of African identity that, while respectful of heritage and origins, ultimately grows out of the movements and reverberations across the constellation of African worlds.\u00a0\u00a0He argues that not only do these pan-African reverberations make us who we are, they are also key to our survival.<\/p>\n
