Bene\ufb01t Screening in Support of the One World Film Festival<\/p>\n

The benefit film, \u201cAn African Election\u201d, is a remarkable documentary that grants viewers unprecedented access to the anatomy of Ghana\u2019s 2008 presidential elections. Capturing the intrigue of electioneering, the intensity of the vote-counting process, and the mood of the countrymen whose fate ies precariously in the balance, director Jarreth Merz\u2019s coverage unfolds with all the tension of a political thriller, revealing the emotions, passions, and ethical decisions that both threaten\u2014and maintain\u2014the integrity of the democratic process. \u201cAn African Election\u201d illuminates a beacon of hope for Africa and for the value and vitality of democracy today. The film will be followed by a discussion with Jennifer Amanda Coffie, from the Institute of African Studies, Carleton University. An expert in refugee flows in West Africa, Ms. Coffie was renowned as a student leader and broadcaster on Radio Universe at University of Legon in her native Ghana before her academic pursuits brought her to Canada.<\/p>\n

For 22 years, One World Arts (formerly WIAM) has been raising awareness about social issues through dynamic programming which includes its annual One World Film Festival. The volunteer-based, non-profit organization works diligently with Canadian arts and community organizations to educate Canadians about global issues \u2013 including those related to human rights, pressing environmental concerns and little known socio-political issues \u2013 through arts and cultural events.
