The Institute of African Studies presents a Brownbag Seminar talk entitled \u201cIntegrated systems and the future of OXFAM\u2019s work in Africa\u201d with Neal McCarthy, Oxfam\u00a0 America<\/p>\n
Neal McCarthy is Senior Manager, Shared Services Application, with Oxfam America. He has been with Oxfam since 2009, first with Oxfam Canada until 2013 before joining the team with Oxfam America. Neal\u2019s work with Oxfam involves information systems and providing Oxfam staff and partners with the information systems and technologies and supporting processes they need to do their work. He leads the Information Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D) initiative at Oxfam America, leads the FC3 project to create a global collaboration platform for all 10,000 Oxfam staff around the world on behalf of Oxfam International, and manages the Shared Services Applications team at Oxfam America. He has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Limerick, Ireland, and an MSc in Development Studies from University College Dublin. He has worked with humanitarian, advocacy and development organizations in Ireland, Sudan, Canada and the United States.<\/p>\n

His talk will be a candid reflection on his work with Oxfam and how changes in information technology affect Oxfam\u2019s ability to deliver on its work in areas such as humanitarian assistance, development and advocacy, with a particular focus on Oxfam\u2019s work in Africa. He will consider how the management of information can contribute to Oxfam\u2019s goals and change the organization\u2019s agendas, while access to technology affects the lives of Oxfam\u2019s primary change agents and enhances the organization\u2019s efficiency and impact.<\/p>\n
