Prof. Pius Adesanmi was among 18 Canadians killed in the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet at the Addis Ababa airport. At the time of his death, he was the director of the Institute of African Studies and a faculty member in The Department of English Language and Literature. Pius was a remarkable writer, poet and political commentator. He is celebrated for his eloquence and fearlessness in speaking truth to power.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe worked tirelessly to build the Institute of African Studies, to share his boundless passion for African literature and to connect with and support students. He was a scholar and teacher of the highest calibre who leaves a deep imprint on Carleton.\u201d<\/p>\n

To honour the memory of Professor Pius Adesanmi, a fund is being established which will support students and continue his life\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
